Bless you and your amazing work! Yo...Hi Michelle,

Bless you and your amazing work! You sound like an incredibly insightful soul. Your experience must make you so valuable to the families you serve. I have had a lot of challenging outcomes in birth this year, and am further stretching my capacities to be with very difficult situations. Your personal experiences give you such an understanding and empathy.

As much sadness as we witness and go through, we are definitely richer for having been through some hard stuff. Fighting the politics of midwifery is just not my thing anymore. I praise those who do that important work. I just find my time better spent helping those who really need it..in the hospitals. I had home births myself and am so grateful for those midwives who provide that service.

I would LOVE to see your blog and learn more about your work. I've often thought of doing some "doula" work for those who are transitioning the other way.

Thanks so much for sharing your story with me!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06059951273542374898noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5686997867572223504.post-80991408099863050042009-12-17T19:58:14.776-05:002009-12-17T19:58:14.776-05:00This is a wonderful post and you are to be congrat...This is a wonderful post and you are to be congratulated for finding your own calling and doing the work with such love and devotion. I am a homebirth Midwife who is planning to certify as a Doula so that I can work as a "Knowledgable Companion" for the majority of birthing women rather than the very few who are choosing homebirth. I am also involved in perinatal hospice work which involves working with women and families who are pregnant with babies diagnosed prenatally with conditions expected to be incompatible with life outside the womb. I have lost two infant sons and also have a child with spina bifida ( and three older very healthy young adult children as well; I'm very blessed ) so I know what it means to go through a pregnancy that will result in saying "hello" and "goodbye" often at the same time. I am most interested in helping women and families make a good and healthy transition into early parenting and being able to attend to the psychosocial and family needs more holistically without having to endlessly battle the "midwifery politics" suits me very well at this stage of my life ( I'm nearly 50 ). I will continue to to do a few home births when I feel truly called to do them but I too, have largely set Midwifery aside as a "profession" to provide "home birth in a box" to families birthing in the hospital. Thank you for writing such a splendid blog; I'll add you to the links on mine.Michellehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14569442682455340958noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5686997867572223504.post-68421512020988912542009-12-10T15:31:10.780-05:002009-12-10T15:31:10.780-05:00Thank you Michelle! I would strongly recommend you do a training with Michel Odent!

I've been training and apprenticing doulas for about 7 years now, and I just LOVE it. The best of luck to you...I hope being a doula is as rich an experience for you as it is for me.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06059951273542374898noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5686997867572223504.post-81855401899615899512009-12-10T05:41:57.382-05:002009-12-10T05:41:57.382-05:00I am booked to train to be a doula and i hope i ca...I am booked to train to be a doula and i hope i can do it as well and with as much love as you!
michelle uk xxAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5686997867572223504.post-13273974163448584352009-12-05T19:28:43.759-05:002009-12-05T19:28:43.759-05:00ditto from me on all that :) Thanks for sharing th...ditto from me on all that :) Thanks for sharing that perspective. <3Shanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00039688934938950009noreply@blogger.com
